she’s back. the wonderful urge to cast on for everything but no finish any of the crap you’ve already got going on. in the last week or so i’ve cast on:
the first is the rose of england from marianne kinzel. i’m in the middle of part D, and the tea cloth goes up to part G i believe & the dinner cloth goes on to part F as in forever. it is huge. i want to do the whole shebang as my lace knitting lifetime achievement, but i dunno if i’ll have enough steam to go the distance. we’ll see. kate suggested i do a bit past the tea cloth but not the full dinner cloth. that sounds like a reasonable thing to do. on to the next project which are my mermaid socks. they look oddly like the pomatomus socks, but i swear they’re not. the stitch pattern is from one of mary thomas’ books and it has no ribbing in between the yarnovers. i’ll knit the pomatmous eventually, but these seem to work up faster & the pattern is easy to memorize. i may put it up here as a freebie or see if it’ll be worth it to sell for a few bucks in the shop. the tudor lace is sitting by as i decide if i want it to be a square or a hexagon. as a designer you have that choice. this brings me to a conversation me & stace had with lisa yesterday. what makes a designer? is it the creativity, imagination, math skills or the constructional ability to simply insert a stitch pattern into a certain measurement and make it work? what do you think? in the meantime, i have my sights set on these projects in the future:
i find it very interesting that for a person who has had no friggin luck with sweaters in the past, that’s all i want to knit right now. i’m working on lace so that’s fine. it calms me. however the things that call to me to knit them RIGHT now are full of cables, and only the saddle shoulder aran is knit in the round with steeks. i can’t wait to order that one. you can get the pattern for $1 (not including shipping) or order a gaggle of them & enjoy some serious pattern stash enhancement. i have been working on the thermal sleeves. i had to write out the increase rows with the pattern row numbers under them & cross them out as i go along.
i should be done, or close to being done with the first sleeve tonight. i’ll be so glad to be close to the neckline, i can’t wait. i could actually wear this in the coming days. that’s if the sweater imps don’t come & rip out the stitches while i sleep.

Demi is my next sweater. I already have the Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed being swatched
You can do a sweater–bad luck is dumb!!
Let’s call startis something else…how about creative experimenting. That way when you look at all your experiments you’ll say, “Wow, I did a lot!” Instead of look at all I didn’t finish.
BTW, I’m enjoying your blog~thanks.
i am 99% sure we have 1 copy of each of the schoolhouse press patterns at the store. (nfs) ask courtney, but I think they are hiding somewhere……
